Create a zip file

7-zip

  1. Open the 7-Zip program.
  2. Use the file browser to change the directory location where you want to put the file.
  3. Click the Add icon from the toolbar or click Commands > Add files to archive from the top menu or simply press ALT A from your keyboard.
  4. On the Archive name and parameters window:
    • At the General tab, give your new archive a name
    • Click the Files tab and click Append... button to add file(s)
  5. On the next window, you can add file(s) into your new archive. You can also add file(s) by drag-and-drop file(s) from your Window Explorer to your archive.
  6. When you finish adding file(s), you may close your newly created archive by click on File > Close Archive from the top menu or simply press CTRL L from your keyboard.

Extract a zip file

  1. Open the WinRar program.
  2. Click File > Open Archive from the top menu or simply press CTRL O from your keyboard.
  3. On the Open Archive window, select the archive and click Open button.
  4. With the archive opened:
    • You can extract the whole files on the archive by click on the Extract To button on the toolbar or click Commands > Extract to the specified folder from the top menu or simply press SHIFT E from your keyboard
    • You can extract selected file(s) on the archive by selecting the file(s) and then click on the Extract To button on the toolbar or click Commands > Extract to the specified folder from the top menu or simply press SHIFT E from your keyboard
